GEMMA NASH
YOGA INSTRUCTOR
I have been practicing yoga since 1999 and teaching since 2003 when I became a RYT200 certified Yoga Teacher at Its Yoga in San Francisco. Initially practicing and teaching Ashtanga I slowly moved towards other styles of yoga and was drawn towards other trainings that led me to becoming an RYT 500 certified teacher. Many thousands of hours later, studying and teaching I became recognised as a Senior Yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance Professionals.
I still incorporate the principles of breath initiated movement in to a Flow, whereby the asanas (poses) are linked through the breath to create a strong and dynamic practice but with sequences that concentrate and build upon opening different elements within the body each week. I focus on the individual and progressive movement building on stability as the first corner stone of a healthy body and mind.
The sequences are always different and close awareness is brought to alignment to ensure a safe, strong and accurate flowing practice.
I continuously advance my own practice and teachings with workshops and trainings in London and all over the world with many wonderful teachers, including Tias Little, Max Strom, Donna Fahri, Cyndi Lee, Carrie Owerko and Annie Carpenter. I value enormously and give thanks for the guidance of my teachers who have inspired my own teachings and principally to my Iyengar teachers who ensure I stay in line!
In 2008 I completed my Foundation at The Yoga Therapy Centre so that I could begin to develop my knowledge and understanding of how to work with people and Yoga therapeutically. I taught in London privately before moving to Dubai in 2005 where I continued to teach privates, small groups and at the two main Yoga studios in Dubai, Club Stretch and Zen Yoga.
I have also extensively trained in Pregnancy Yoga initially in 2005 with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa founder of Golden Bridge in Los Angeles and the following year with Uma Dinesmore-Tuli of the Sitaram Partnership at The Life Centre. In 2006 I qualified to teach Baby Om techniques in my Mother & Baby classes following training in Postnatal Yoga with Sarah Perron and Laura Staton, cofounders and authors of Baby Om in New York. I continue to develop and research with the practice of Yoga in both the Pre and Post Partum periods. This led to advanced training in Yoga for Post Natal Recovery with Birthlight and Francoise Barbira Freedman and ongoing trainings with Judy Cameron from Yoga Birth and The British Wheel. As well as having four children; three beautiful girls and a whirlwind of a boy to both inspire and teach me something new every single day.
In recent years my thirst to learn more about our bodies and how we can move more freely led me to start exploring the work of Yamuna Zake. Through her work I have become a certified Yamuna Body Rolling Practitioner and continue to train in all modalities to extend my experience and knowledge. Including Foot Fitness and Faceball. Through this I can effectively guide people more deeply towards their own path of self healing and empowerment.
I now teach in and around Winchester, Hampshire.
